Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Squooshi reusable pouches.

Using Your Squooshi

What foods can I put in a Squooshi pouch?

Anything squishy! Squooshi pouches work with any food that has a smooth, pourable consistency. Popular choices include fruit and vegetable purees, yogurt, smoothies, applesauce, oatmeal, hummus, nut butters (thinned slightly), and homemade baby food of all kinds. If you can spoon it, you can Squooshi it.

How do I fill my Squooshi pouch?

Open the zipper at the bottom of the pouch completely, hold the pouch upright, and spoon or pour your food directly in. Close the zipper firmly until you hear it click shut, then replace the cap on the spout. That's it — takes about 20 seconds. For even faster batch filling, the Squooshi Filling Station fills 6 pouches simultaneously in under 60 seconds.

Can I freeze Squooshi pouches?

Yes! Squooshi pouches are fully freezer safe. Fill them, seal them, and lay flat to freeze (this saves space and helps them freeze evenly). Once frozen solid you can stand them upright. Frozen pouches keep for up to 3 months. To thaw, place in the fridge overnight or run under warm water for a few minutes. Never microwave a filled, sealed pouch.

How long does food stay fresh in a Squooshi pouch?

In the refrigerator: filled pouches stay fresh for up to 72 hours (3 days), depending on the food. Foods with dairy (yogurt, cheese) should be used within 24–48 hours. In the freezer: up to 3 months. At room temperature: treat a filled pouch like you would any perishable food — use within 2 hours.

What age are Squooshi pouches suitable for?

Squooshi pouches are designed for babies and kids of all ages. The small 3.4oz pouch is ideal for babies from around 4–6 months (when starting pureed solids) through 12 months. The large 5oz pouch is perfect for toddlers 12 months and up who want a bigger serving. Many families use Squooshi well into the school-age years for smoothies and snacks.

Are the pouches TSA compliant for travel?

Yes — Squooshi pouches comply with TSA regulations when traveling with infants and toddlers. Baby food and breast milk are exempt from the standard 3.4oz liquid rule. However, regulations can vary by country and airline, so we recommend declaring the pouches at security and checking current TSA guidelines before you travel.

Cleaning & Care

Are Squooshi pouches dishwasher safe?

Yes — top rack of the dishwasher only. Place them with the zipper open so water can flow through the interior. We recommend removing the cap and placing it in the cutlery basket. For best results, rinse the pouch immediately after use before placing in the dishwasher — this prevents food from drying inside and makes cleaning much easier.

How do I hand wash a Squooshi pouch?

Open the bottom zipper fully and rinse under warm running water. Add a small drop of dish soap, fill halfway with warm water, close the zipper, and shake vigorously for 20–30 seconds. Open and use a bottle brush to scrub the interior walls and zipper channel. Rinse thoroughly — squeeze water through the spout several times to flush it clean. Stand upright with zipper open to air dry completely before storing.

My pouch has staining from berries or carrots — is it still safe?

Absolutely. Staining from strongly-colored foods like blueberries, beets, carrots, and sweet potato is cosmetic only and does not affect the safety or hygiene of the pouch. To minimize staining, rinse immediately after use. To help fade existing stains, leave clean wet pouches in direct sunlight for an hour — UV light naturally bleaches food stains. Many parents designate certain pouches as "berry pouches" and don't worry about staining at all.

How long do Squooshi pouches last?

With proper care, Squooshi pouches typically last 2–3 years of regular use — sometimes longer. Signs it's time to replace a pouch: the zipper no longer seals completely (test by filling with water and squeezing), visible cracking or splitting in the material, or a persistent odor that doesn't wash out. Most families find one 6-pack lasts the entire toddler feeding period.

Do I need to sterilize new pouches before first use?

We recommend washing new pouches thoroughly before first use. For newborns or babies under 6 months, you may want to sterilize by submerging in boiling water for 3–5 minutes. For healthy babies over 6 months, a thorough wash with hot soapy water or a dishwasher cycle is sufficient. Do not sterilize by boiling after every use — hot water cycling will shorten the pouch lifespan over time.

Safety & Materials

Are Squooshi pouches BPA-free?

Yes, 100%. Squooshi pouches are made from BPA-free, phthalate-free, and food-safe materials. They meet all relevant FDA food contact safety standards. You can feel confident about what goes in your baby's food and what touches it.

What are the pouches made from?

Squooshi pouches are made from a food-grade plastic film that is BPA-free, phthalate-free, and PVC-free. The spout and cap are made from food-safe polypropylene. All materials are free from harmful chemicals and have been tested for food contact safety.

Is the spout safe for babies who are teething?

The Squooshi spout is designed with a smooth, rounded tip that is gentle on baby's gums. However, it is made from rigid polypropylene — if your baby tends to bite down hard, monitor use. The no-choke cap should always be kept away from babies when the pouch is in use, as it is a small part.

Can I put hot food in the pouches?

No — do not fill Squooshi pouches with hot food. Always allow food to cool to room temperature before filling. Hot food can compromise the zipper seal, affect the integrity of the material, and is unsafe to serve directly to babies. Cool food to room temperature first, then refrigerate the filled pouch if not serving immediately.
