]]>I am really excited about the warmer weather on the way and all of the great healthy frozen concoctions we can put in a Squooshi, so when Blendtec so kindly sent me a blender to test out, I was thrilled to see a number of frozen recipes. This is the first thing I made and I have to say it’s been a huge hit.
Popeye’s Ice Cream
3/4 c half and half
1/4 c agave nectar
1/2 banana
2/3 c nonfat dry milk (I used Organic Valley)
2 c fresh spinach
1 1/2 T vanilla extract
2-3 c ice cubes
For a Blendtec, add ingredients to jar in order listed and select “ice cream”.
I haven’t tried this with my other blenders but I would blend the same way you blend something with ice cubes and go for a smooth consistency.
Spoon or pour into your favorite Squooshi and serve immediately or freeze for later.
We froze additional pouches and have been taking them out and setting them on the counter for about 30 minutes to soften them up a bit and then it’s like a vanilla soft serve! Incredibly delicious!
Reid said “this is sooooo good mom, I think I want to eat this every day, all day long.” I agree with him! Now I’m going to experiment with coconut milk instead of half and half and powdered coconut milk instead of the nonfat milk. It might not stand up as well but since we’re putting it in a Squooshi in the freezer, it could be great!
I hope you enjoy this as much as we did and thank you Blendtec!
]]>Given how much kids love to fill their Squooshi pouches with yogurt - and how much we believe in organic goodness - we reached out to our friends at Stonyfield Farm with the idea of a recipe swap. We share a commitment to healthy food, healthy kids and a healthy planet and hope you'll enjoy this recipe as much as we do.

1 pear
1/2 cup peas
Steam green beans until tender and save the steaming water.
Puree all ingredients using your wand, blender, mixer of choice using the steaming water to achieve desired consistency.
This made 3 small and 2 large Squooshis.

Can you really put so much goodness in one little pouch? Yes, you can!
My son loves this combo warmed up on a cold afternoon for a quick snack or part of his lunch. Let us know what your kids think of it.
Apple, Carrot, Sweet Potato and Broccoli Squooshi
2 small apples
2 medium carrots
1 1/2 cup sweet potato, cubed
1 cup broccoli, chopped
Steam carrots, sweet potato and broccoli together until tender, adding apple at the very end. Save the steaming water.
Puree using your wand, blender, mixer of choice using the steaming water to achieve desired consistency.
This made 5 small Squooshis and 1 large Squooshi.
]]>At the end of dinner, almost every night, Viggo gets a really funny look on his face and starts whispering, “lemon yogurt, lemon yogurt” — it’s hilarious. He loves lemon yogurt and I love how easy it is to quickly make it and fill a Squooshi. I use plain goat yogurt but any plain yogurt works just fine. I also add a little local honey but my son is 2.5 — please use an age appropriate sweetener or none at all.
Enjoy.
Lemon Yogurt
approx 1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice, plus a little more to your taste
1/4 tsp local honey
This recipe makes one small, 2.5oz, Squooshi.
]]>
approx 2c steamed/roasted acorn squash
1 large ripe pear, peeled
2c loose packed fresh spinach
Blend together (I used a Vitamix) adding water to reach desired consistency.
This made three large and two small Squooshi pouches.
Viggo thinks this is a super swingin' snack!

I discovered Chia puddings quite awhile ago and just fell in love with them. Chia seeds have become increasingly popular as a "super food". They are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, protein, calcium and fiber. In addition, they are gluten free. This super food isn't just for grown ups, kids love them too!
Chia seeds can be added to yogurt, smoothies, or mixed with a variety of milks, fruits, sweeteners and spices to create delicious puddings for you and your kids. When soaked for a period of time (I recommend overnight), the seeds absorb the liquid and turn into a gel similar to tapioca. This consistency is perfect for a Squooshi.
This is a very simple pudding recipe that is refreshing, light, and packed with nutrition. I usually make this at night and it is ready in the morning. However, it is so good that after filling up Reid's Squooshi in the morning, I usually eat the rest and then end up wishing I had more in the evening.
Lemon Chia Pudding
2.5 C vanilla coconut milk
1/2 C chia seeds
3 T agave
2 t lemon zest (you can also use orange zest if you prefer)
Combine all ingredients in a glass mason jar or similar, tighten the lid and shake, shake, shake. I usually refrigerate mine and then come back in another 30 minutes and shake it again. You want to make sure the chia seeds are evenly distributed and not sticking together.
Refrigerate 4-6 hours and then spoon into a Squooshi, or, right into your mouth!
Enjoy!
